I’ll spend the first part of this post with the usual caveats. Arterio Morris, Kansas’s new guard via the transfer portal, is yet to have his day in court—that trial begins this summer. Second chances are part of society, and I believe in them, should the person involved do the work to earn them. I’m new to learning about Arterio Morris, and I’m sure more details will emerge as the process plays out.
That being said, it’s hard to see a path forward after reading this.

There’s no way this is worth it for, what…. Dajuan Harris insurance? Nor would it be OK if KU expected more performance from Morris. Texas caught deserved heat for allowing Morris to remain on the team. So the fact that KU has been quiet about this—and I’m sure they’d cite the fact that the trial is yet to commence, if they’d ever respond to my requests for comment which they never do and didn’t this time either—feels very strange and not like the Jayhawks.
KU has said a lot of the right things in the recent past. As the conversation around social progress has evolved since the pandemic, fans have a heightened awareness of the full spectrum of sport. We have power to change things—even though sometimes it doesn’t feel like it. The normalization of domestic violence, which pro sports has led the way on, is something we can—and should!—fight back on, whether with its our money, our attention or our passion for the team or sport involved.
Will this affect how I view next season? Absolutely—it will never be far from my mind. Everyone can make their own decision here, that’s your right. This is my opinion, and my opinion that signing Arterio Morris was a mistake. I’ll leave it at that.
You think they didn’t do the necessary background check on the situation? What a joke. We needed a point guard and got a good one. Hot takes are not necessary.
